Mosler Europe’s MT900R & MT900GT3 race car assembly is
carried out in a dedicated unit based in St Ives,
Cambridgeshire, England. The response time, development
imperatives and final preparation work are different from
the road car requirements; as are some of the skills of the
technicians building the cars, and Mosler Europe feel that
this is best achieved by separate management, staff and
facilities. The Cambridgeshire location is also more central
than Norfolk with better air and road access for continental
teams in particular, and closer to tracks such as
Silverstone and Donington Park for testing purposes.
However, the vitally important link between the feedback
from the racing operation to the benefit of road car
development is ensured via the engineering management, and
there is regular exchange of information and personnel
between the two bases.
The fundamental MT900S road car components used, including
the monocoque (fitted with a roll cage) and bodywork, are
delivered to the St Ives factory where they are
painstakingly race-prepared and assembled into either MT900R
or MT900GT3 specification with the competition suspension
and brakes, appropriate race engine and Hewland
transmission, cockpit detail, and equipment such as
air-jacks, fire extinguisher systems and wiring looms. The
bodywork, incorporating some relatively minor differences,
is final-fitted and the completed car set-up correctly on a
flat plate, engine fired up and the mapping checked, ready
for the customer to shakedown the car.
Generally Mosler Europe advise customers to carry this out
in the UK, so that Mosler Europe personnel can be on hand to
support the shakedown and resolve any ‘teething’ issues that
might arise with a brand new car. Alternatively,
arrangements can be made for technicians to attend tests
abroad.
The aim is always to produce a turn-key racing car,
immaculately presented and prepared, that is ready for a
team to apply the final details and checks before going
racing. |
